SAFEGUARDING

Carmelite Monastery, Goonellabah

Safeguarding Commitment Statement

"Learn to do right, seek justice and defend the oppressed". Isaiah 1-17

The Carmelite Monastery of the Holy Child Jesus of Prague and Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Goonellabah, is a community of contemplative women in the Catholic Diocese of Lismore. As a community we affirm that each child is a gift from God to be valued, cherished, respected and protected from harm, whether it be physical, emotional or sexual harm or harm from neglect.

Our monastery is composed of cloistered nuns who observe papal enclosure and an extern sister who meets visitors and those who come for daily Mass. Each sister in the community understands the importance of the specific role she plays, individually and collectively, to ensure the wellbeing and safety of children under 18 years and vulnerable adults.

In our commitment to Gospel values and the words of Jesus, "Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them" (Matt 19:14), we strive to do everything in our power to safeguard them. To assist us in our commitment we adopt and adhere to the Diocese of Lismore Safeguarding Policy and the National Catholic Safeguarding Standards.

Whilst we maintain confidentiality in all other matters, allegations of child abuse brought to the notice of any member of the community will be passed on to the:
